How Google Maps Helped Solve This Case Of Missing 83-year-old Woman
The 83-year-old elderly woman Paulette Landricks suffered from Alzheimer’s, disappearing frequently in the neighbourhood.

Google Maps is not only a great help to find our destinations but it apparently can also be credited as a missing person finder, this case is proof, albeit with an unfortunate outcome. This is the case of an elderly woman from Belgium, who went missing two years ago but thanks to Google Maps, the police traced her whereabouts.

The elderly woman is named Paulette Landricks, an 83-year-old Alzheimer’s patient with a history of sudden disappearance due to her condition. On November 2, 2020, at around 1 pm, Paulette disappeared from her home while her husband was doing laundry, without a trace. He only realised that she was missing later that afternoon, alerting the family. They then reported her missing to the police.

As per reports, the police were about to close her file in October 2022, when one of the officers came across something on Google Maps. The investigator was looking for Paulette’s house on the Google Street view, finding something chilling. He found a Google Street View image of Paulette crossing the street to the neighbour’s place. Because of this shocking discovery, the case was reopened and officers were once again deployed in the neighbourhood.

Two years after her disappearance, the authorities found Paulette Landricks’ body below a hill, right beneath the neighbour’s garden. When the autopsy was done, they determined that she had fallen from an opening in the garden, succumbing to her injuries soon after. It is believed that she was “confused" due to Alzheimer’s, which led to her unfortunate death.

A mother of four, Paulette had a history of venturing out in the street because of the disease. Most of the time when she disappeared, her husband found her a few feet away from the house and brought her back.

The case was shared on a YouTube video titled “6 Most Disturbing Mysteries Solved with Google Maps," shared by the channel Chilling Scares. A concerned user stated, “The one thing that confuses me about the first case is that for nearly TWO YEARS nobody at the neighbouring house realised there was a dead body in their yard. That’s insane."
