Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that the Modi government is focussing on the integration of all three wings of Indian Armed Forces- Army, Navy and Air Force.

Speaking at the Firstpost Defence Summit 2024, Singh said, “At first, it was a difficult task to integrate but the plan is going better and we will soon witness better coordination among the three defence forces.”

“We focused on long-term gains for our country’s defence. In the past couple of years the defence sector has been changed radically,” added Singh.

The minister also said that his government is making all possible efforts to make the defence forces self-reliant and his administration is the first regime to restrict the import of certain weapons.

He also talked about the ‘Make in India’ movement promoted by his government adding that the Indian soldiers are now using weapons that were created in India by Indians.

“We have made sure that our army uses indigenous resources and we even took a step forward to export these arms and equipment,” the defence minister said.

The defence minister further talked about India’s capability to manufacture and export, especially ammunition and said that the country is among the top 25 exporters now.

“Exporting weaponry requires us to venture outside of our comfort zone, and past governments did the same, but we have made that daring step,” Singh was quoted by First Post as saying.

Earlier in the day, Singh approved cash rewards of up to Rs 25 lakh each to the armed forces personnel who bagged medals in last year’s Asian Games and Asian Para Games.

For both the Asian Games as well as Asian Para Games, gold medal winners will receive a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh each, silver medal winners Rs 15 lakh each and bronze medal winners Rs 10 lakh each, the defence ministry said on Saturday.
