Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan starred in two films together. However, did you know that she almost played his sister in a third film?

Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan have worked in a couple films together. The actors were first cast in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in 1999. Their on-screen chemistry was loved by all. They were then paired again in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, which released in 2002. They shared the screen with Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. However, did you know Aishwarya Rai almost played Salman Khan’s sister in one of the movies.

In a video shared on Reddit and now going viral, Aishwarya revealed she was cast with Salman Khan and Aamir Khan in Josh. In the interview, that dates back to 2018, Aishwarya revealed that Salman and Aamir were supposed to lead Josh but eventually, the Mansoor Khan directorial ended up with Aishwarya playing Shah Rukh’s sister. The film was released just months before Mohabbatein hit the cinemas, in which they were paired opposite each other.

In the interview, by Bollywood Hungama, Aishwarya was asked if she had any apprehensions about playing SRK’s sister since they were also slated to star as a couple later in the same year. Aishwarya replied she didn’t and brought up Salman’s name.

“Not at all, I had no apprehensions to play Shah Rukh Khan’s sister in Josh. I had agreed to work with Mansoor actually. So when we had first started, the cast was meant to be Aamir Khan and Salman Khan at one point. And then it changed to I don’t know who all, but then it changed again to Shah Rukh, and later to Shah Rukh and Aamir, then at some point it became Chandrachur. So the cast kept changing at different points in time, but Shirley remained Shirley,” she said.

“I had said yes to Mansoor, so even when it became this casting I remember Ratan Jain ji asked and I was like at no point of time had I ever had any doubts. I had committed to doing this film, this role and I thought it would be new and different,” Aishwarya added.

Josh released in June 2000. The film was a commercial success at the point. The film was not only praised for its story but also the songs.
