Ever Wondered How Karisma Kapoor Got The Nickname Lolo? She Answers
At a recent event, Karisma Kapoor shared the story of how she and her sister Kareena Kapoor got the nicknames, Lolo and Bebo.

Karisma Kapoor, fondly called Lolo, has been an integral part of the Indian film industry since the 90s. Hailing from the famous Kapoor family, she is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita and also the elder sister of Kareena Kapoor. While Karisma’s legacy as the Lolo of Bollywood still influences the younger generation, not many know exactly how she got the unique nickname. Both Kapoor sisters have their own special nicknames, as fans lovingly call them Lolo and Bebo. At a recent event, the Murder Mubarak star spilled the beans about their nicknames and it is quite an interesting story.

Upon being asked how she got nicknamed Lolo, Karisma revealed that her mother was a big fan of Gina Lolo, further adding that she is a Sindhi and would make Meethi Loli (Sindhi sweet roti). “They call the sweet roti lolo, loli in Sindhi. So that’s how I got the name Lolo,” she said.

Karisma also shared how the family continues the tradition of having funny pet names for everyone, including Daboo, Chintu and Chipoo. “I got Lolo, and then my sister came, and they were like, ‘Let’s find something funny for her’. She was a baby, so my father called her Bebo,” the actress added.

While this is the first time that the Bollywood actress has spoken about the family nicknames, her younger sister, actress Kareena, has time and again opened up about their names. In many of her interviews, the actress revealed that her mother named her Kareena, after being inspired by the book Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. She also shared that it was her father who nicknamed her Bebo, as he wanted it to rhyme with her elder sister.

“My father and mother wanted some funny names for us. So it’s Lolo and Bebo with no real meaning but just kind of rhymes,” she said on the Vogue BFFs chat show.
