Did Taylor Swift Just Hint At Her Role In A Marvel Movie? Fans Think So
Taylor Swift's participation in Deadpool & Wolverine is not yet verified.

Fans began listening to Taylor Swift’s surprise double album, The Tortured Poets Department, as soon as it became available online in the early hours of April 19. Upon reaching the end, they saw that the last song, Clara Bow, concluded with the term Dazzling. Now, suspicion is rife that Swift may have dropped an Easter egg involving Deadpool & Wolverine. Earlier, several reports suggested that the pop sensation will make an appearance in Marvel Studios’ R-rated superhero film, possibly in the role of X-Men member and superheroine Alison Blaire aka Dazzler.

A lot of theories have suggested that there may be more unexpected cameos from the Marvel universe in addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s portrayals of the film’s titular characters being brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Taylor Swift’s participation in Deadpool & Wolverine is not yet verified. Notably, Reynolds and director Shawn Levy have been friends with Swift and have featured in her music videos, hinting at a possible collaboration.

Even though Swift unexpectedly revealed later that The Tortured Poets Department is actually a double album, releasing fifteen additional songs as The Tortured Poets: The Anthology, Clara Bow did not wind up serving as the closer. The choice of the term “dazzling” has now caused some Marvel fans to hold back.

Meanwhile, ComicBook.com reports that Taylor Swift’s use of “dazzling” might be more than just a coincidence. The track explores the highs and lows of being the entertainment industry’s “It Girl,” a concept first associated with silent film star Clara Bow.

The song then transitions to Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks then to Swift herself and finally to the current generation of pop stars. Each woman is portrayed in comparison to her predecessor, reflecting the industry’s constant quest for the next big thing.

The repeated reference to being “dazzling” suggests the pressure these women face to maintain a captivating public image. Overall, the song critiques the industry’s tendency to oversimplify and glamorize the careers of these women, highlighting the challenges and complexities they navigate.

Rumours linking Taylor Swift to the role of Dazzler surfaced almost a decade ago during the production of 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. These rumours emerged when Swift was photographed with members of the film’s cast. At that time, Swift was at the peak of her initial 1989 era, marked by a colour scheme of white and blue that coincidentally resembled Dazzler’s comic-accurate costume.

The Apocalypse rumours were eventually proven false, and Dazzler made an unexpected cameo in 2020’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix (played by a different actress). With Swift’s well-established connections to the Deadpool & Wolverine cast and crew, the idea that she could appear as Dazzler only grew from there when the film shifted to production in 2023. Not to be overlooked is the fact that Swift was utilising another white-and-blue colour scheme at the time—the Midnights.

The movie Deadpool & Wolverine is slated to make its debut in theatres on July 26.
