Peoples welfare not LDFs concern: Chandy

KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said that the LDF, while in power or in the opposition, never stood for the welfare of the people.He was speaking after inaugurating a  district-level convention of the Indian National Congress here. During the LDF rule, ministers never obeyed the Chief Minister, Chandy said. The LDF has been embroiled in controversies. The CPM and the CPI state conferences did not discuss the issues related to the welfare of the people, he said. On the CPM’s complaint to the Election Commission that the UDF ministers had violated the code of conduct, Chandy said that the LDF was raising such issues as they had nothing else to speak. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said  that the Piravom byelection is very important for the Congress. All party men should get involved in the election campaign to gain maximum number of votes for UDF candidate Anoop Jacob, he said.  The special convention was organised in the district as part of the party’s state-level convention, to be held in August.Union Minister K V Thomas, UDF convener P P Thankachan, KPCC general secretaries M I Shahnawaz, Thalekunnil Basheer, N Venugopal, DCC president V J Paulose, MPs and MLAs from the district were present.
