New Delhi: After the Indian Air Force, it's now animal activists who are irked with Aamir Khan's upcoming film Rang De Basanti.
Chairperson People for Animals Maneka Gandhi has protested against the use of animals in the film without prior permission.
After a special screening for the Defence Minister and Air Force on Tuesday, Rakeysh Mehra's Rang De Basanti was given a go ahead.
But just a day later, animal activist Maneka Gandhi has a bone to pick with the film and its makers.
She alleges that as per the rules set by the government, the use of animals in the film did not have the required permission from the Animal Welfare Board of India.
Opposing certaing parts of the film, Maneka says, "The producer and director of the film as well as the Censor Board were informed a month ago, when the promos were first released. Promos were released after five days, since the Secretary was asked not to release them."
Maneka says that despite the fact that the Censor Board was informed about the contempt, they did not do anything about it. "Obviously, they intend to break the law. There is a malafied intention here," she added.
According to Maneka, a notice has been sent to the Censor Board on the non-compliance and the Board can be held for contempt of court if the film is passed without cuts.
Maneka's decision lies with the Censor Board and if the Censor Board chooses to violate the rules, then the chairperson and scretary of the Board will be held for contempt of court.
"I think they should take it seriously. The government cannot allow its own rules to be taken lightly," Maneka said.
Rang De Basanti is slated for release on the 20th of this month, but with the controversy surrounding the use of animals in the film still brewing, the wait could take little longer.
