Manchester United Look To Swoop for Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon In Januaryn
According to reports, Ten Hag is interested in bringing in the 23-year-old English International from the London side, as the United manager looks to alter the fortunes of his team.

With Sergio Regulion’s time at Manchester United coming to an end, Erik ten Hag seeks to swoop Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon in January. United might have sent Regulion back to the North Londoners but they are still in need of another top-class left back. As per the Independent, via the Express, Ten Hag will use an ‘open channel’ to increase the chances of signing the 23-year-old early this season. Sessegnon has not featured in competitive matches this season due to a thigh injury. However, he has been touted to make a return to European football this month.

Bound by the Financial Fair Play (FFP) guidelines, Manchester United won’t be allowed to spend big in the January transfer window. They are currently dealing with a bloated squad that would need some trimming to free up more budget for fresh signings. Amid all these transfer problems, United have remained in contact with Tottenham, during Regulion’s time at the club. The former Madrid wing-back appeared in 12 games for United but his performances were just not enough to convince ten Hag for a permanent move at Old Trafford. This led to the Dutchman eyeing Sessengnon to reinforce United’s defence.

This could be a win-win situation for both Tottenham and Manchester United. It is quite likely that the Spurs coach Postecoglou will be depending on Destiny Udogie for the rest of the season. A prime cause for this is Sessengnon’s development halt because of a series of injuries. Before arriving in London, Sessengnon was a beast at Fulham. He played a total of 120 games for the Craven Cottage side, netting 25 goals and providing 18 assists. Since Sessegnon signed for Spurs, he has struggled for playing time throughout his five-year spell.

He has made a total of 56 appearances for the Londoners while scoring three goals and providing four assists. Sessegnon showed immense promise towards the start of last season. It even earned him a surprise call-up to England’s World Cup squad. However, since then the wing-back has barely been seen in action. He recently returned to the Spurs’ first team to train a few weeks ago and will be on the verge of returning to some football action.

Manchester United transferred Regulion back to Tottenham the previous week to cut short his one-year loan spell. The Spaniard was brought to the club on transfer deadline day due to injuries suffered by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. However, recent developments show that Erik ten Hag is still keen on signing Sessegnon to strengthen the left-back position of his team.

The Transfermarkt has valued the Spurs wingback at €13 million and just has a year left on his contract. The low fees could be enticing to United as keep their hopes alive of signing the England international.
