In Tamil Nadu's Nellai, Class 5 Student Writes Book On Cyclone Michaung

We often hear stories about scholar students going viral on the internet. Recently, a similar thing happened when a 10-year-old boy, who is in the fifth grade, wrote a book on the Michaung cyclone, which is currently garnering everyone’s attention.

According to reports, the name of the boy is Gavin Vignesh. His father, Vignesh Annamalai, is a software expert. They hail from Nellai, Tamil Nadu. Gavin studies at a private school. Last December, Nellai witnessed heavy flooding due to Cyclone Michaung in various regions.

One of the news channels reported that the Guntur Express, which departed from Thiruchendur railway station, halted at Srivaikuntam station due to track erosion caused by a severe flood. During that time, the local villagers of Srivaikuntam town in Tamil Nadu immediately helped the passengers by providing food items and other necessary things. Seeing this clip on television, 10-year-old Gavin was greatly impressed by the humanitarian acts of the locals of Srivaikuntam town.

Keeping the incident in mind, he wrote an English book titled Humanity Wins. The book was published with the permission of the District Collector.

In a media interaction, Gavin said that in his book, he wrote about a man named Raju from Srivaikuntam Pudukudi who comes to get treatment from a famous dermatologist from Nellai. After knowing the nature of the disease, the doctor informs him that he will need a certain amount for the medical expenses.

Hearing this, Raju said that he does not have that much money. He further informs the doctor that he is going to his hometown of Pudukudi to collect the money. After learning about the town named Pudukudi, the doctor got emotional and said with pride that the villagers of his town had once saved the lives of his younger brother’s family. Later, the doctor does the treatment free of charge on humanitarian grounds, which is the moral of the story.

In December 2023, Tropical Cyclone Michaung peaked with sustained winds of 60 knots (110 km/h; 70 mph), causing heavy rainfall in north-eastern Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and south-eastern Andhra Pradesh, before making landfall near Bapatla in Andhra Pradesh on December 5.
